CDS stands for Combined Defence Services. It is a competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air Force Academy. This exam is conducted twice a year, usually in February and November. The eligibility criteria vary depending on the academy and the post for which the candidate is applying. For instance, for admission into the Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. The selection process includes a written exam, followed by a personal interview and a medical examination. The written exam consists of three papers: English, General Knowledge, and Mathematics. Candidates who clear the written exam are then called for an interview by the Services Selection Board (SSB), where they are tested on various parameters such as physical fitness, leadership skills, and social adaptability. The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in the written exam and the SSB interview.
